Looking for a Boreczky?
First Things First
Although our family has a lot of members with common last names like Johnson or Konrad or even Rydzewski (like my great-uncle Frank who played football), I haven't found a Boreczky yet that we aren't related to. This page has a bit of information about my family and pointers to some of us.
— John Boreczky
California Boreczkys
- John - Networks+IT, worked at FXPAL doing AI analysis of multimedia and smart conference rooms, attended UC Berkeley and UMich. Still fixing things and teaching robotics. I worked with so many incredible and wonderful people and I hope All Of Them are doing well.
- Chance - Policy and PoliSci
- My wife isn't a Boreczky technically, but she is a homeschooling advocate, a knitter, and a gardener.1i>
- John's other kids - they have learned from the mistakes in my family history and seem to know what is important. Yay! Certainly they saw how much it sucked to a have a 30 mile commute in Bay Area Traffic for almost 25 years.
- It looks like distant cousin John who had lived in Wyoming now lives in southern California. Welcome!
Michigan Boreczkys
- Quite a few of us in West Michigan - Fennville and Allegan. That area still feels like home, sort of.
- My father and oldest brother died too young in Michigan. Dad was a well read and gentle giant Marine who put aside his business degrees for a less stressful life. My brother was the most insightful person I've ever met. Medical issues made his life hard and I miss him daily.
- My Mom and other brother and lots of inlaws and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews live in West and Southeast Michigan
Chicago Boreczkys
- Some of my cousins still live on the southside of Chicago. My "uncle" Bill was a Chicago cop and overlapped my grandfather on the force for a bit. Lots of my dad's relatives all around the city.
- Lots of relatives in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City. The tallest monument there is for the family of my great-grandfather who was a real estate developer and a politician in charge of real estate development. :-)
- In different spots in Holy Cross Cemetery are my grandmother, who I didn't get enough years with, my grandfather "Miller the Cop", and my aunt and uncles, including Reverend John Boreczky, who was a Catholic Navy Chaplain who retired as a Captain to avoid the promotion from acting to actual Chief of Chaplains (which would have required a four-year term). I see a pattern here that I continued....
Ohio Boreczkys
- When they first arrived in the USA, the Boreczkys seem to have stayed in Ohio and Indiana for a bit before heading over to Chicago
- I've learned that the stories that pass down to later generations aren't always true. I was told that one of my grandfather's younger brothers died young. He actually moved to Ohio and started a family and they used lots of family first names like John, George, William, Steve, Vincent, etc. Some of them have spread to other states - like a John to Wyoming with his family.
- I am amused at coincidences, like two different John Boreczkys serving in the US Navy.
Texas and North Carolina Boreczkys
- My uncle the priest worked in a few Chicago parishes after he retired from the Navy. He then spent some time near Lubbock, Texas (Abernathy) trying to help rebuild the finances of a few parishes. It explains why you might see a bunch of Polish names on the donation plaques on a few Texas churches. His health issues led him to retire for good in time to join his siblings just as they moved....
- My aunt and other uncle moved from Chicaco to Brevard, North Carolina and their brother joined them after the house was built but before them moved in. It made things more crowded, but it shortened the commute to daily Catholic mass from a short drive to a 20 foot walk. I got to visit a number of times, including when I attended UIST '99 in Asheville. My wife and older kids spent parts of several summers in Brevard which was an awesome place. My uncles both passed away in North Carolina and my aunt moved to Michigan to be closer to my brother and mother.
- I never got to live in North Carolina, but one of my few first cousins on my Mom's side retired there.

As I implied above, likely something here is incorrect. Sorry, not intentional.
